“A meeting brings together a group of the unfit, appointed by the unwilling, to do the unnecessary!” - anonymous
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Duration: 1 day
Investment: GROUP RATE APPLIES (maximum group size 14 - larger group sizes and/or multiple program delivery to be negotiated)
Introduction/ Descriptor: Meetings are part of our culture. We are social beings and it is natural and traditional for people to come together in small (and larger) groups at regular intervals. However, they are also sometimes labelled the bane of many people’s work life. At times you may wonder if they are really worth having? However, despite all the complaints about meetings, there is no readily available substitute for them. When properly planned and run, meetings can make a significant contribution to an organisation’s effectiveness.
When we consider that most people in professional jobs spend well over 60% of their week in meetings (and this figure rises as you become more senior, with some executives spending 80+% of their week in meetings of some kind), it’s important that we are skilled, confident and effective with our meeting practices. This program is designed to enhance participants’ understanding of - and ability to plan for, facilitate, and/or participate in - meetings more effectively.
Topics covered include:
- Revealing the actual purpose and benefits of meetings
- Understanding and appreciating the Task & Maintenance functions of meetings
- The pitfalls of meetings – understanding and highlighting just why they fail
- Mistakes made by managers when leading a meeting
- The five key elements of an effective meeting
- Chairing and facilitating the meeting
- Planning, writing, circulating and utilising the Agenda for maximum effect
- Meeting minutes – taking and distributing effectively
- * NB: Survey analysis – identifying and pinpointing exactly where your team meetings are strong and areas for improvement (including specific solutions for implementation to combat weaker areas)
Course Suitability: If clarification is needed for course suitability/relevance, please contact us. Please note that these topics can be adapted and customised depending on your specific requirements.
Who should attend: Running a meeting is a skill, not something you are born knowing how to do. From senior executive to ground level staff (and often a combination of both!), anybody can attend this program. * Survey analysis is designed primarily for participant groups who meet as a team on a regular basis.
Format / Program structure: Interactive program that involves survey analysis and discussion, theoretical information sharing and participant self reflection on current organisational and team meeting habits.
